Welcome To NOVO!
Editorial By Suave Kajko
After what felt like a never ending winter,
spring has finally arrived in the beautiful city of Toronto.
For a guy that loves music, our first warm, sunny day couldn't land on a better date
-- it happened to be Record Store Day. Like thousands of other music fans, I went on a
trek in the city to explore a couple of record shops and managed to score several awesome records. Of course, I plan
to make more frequent visits to record stores now that the weather is improving
-- and hope that many of our readers will do the same. We recently assembled a list of
our favorite record stores in Toronto on our website, which I invite you to check out
-- just search for "record stores" on www.novo.press. In the next few weeks, we'll put together similar lists for Montreal
and Vancouver.
Inside this issue you'll find a great mix of articles about audio and technology topics
because that's what NOVO is all about. Stephanie Greenall takes us a tour of tech
gadgets that will enhance your vacation, but you'll probably end up using most of
them in your day-to-day adventures. Guest writer Angus MacPherson, gives us a preview of the upcoming FutureWorld
event in Toronto (June 9, 2018 at DCAD). FutureWorld will feature presentations and
demos on the future of robotics and AI from creators, researchers, industrialists,
and visionaries, with a focus on humanrobot interaction, real-world impacts, challenges, and
opportunities. I attended the event last year and had a blast, so I'll be going again this June, and invite you to
join me.
Jumping over to audio, this issue launches an exciting new series of articles
entitled "Meet the Maker". These stories will highlight some of the remarkable and
sometimes eccentric individuals in the hifi business, and provide us with insights
about their companies and contributions to the industry. The story in this issue
features a conversation with Gianni Maria Sacchetti, the CEO and Founder of Unison
Research and Opera Loudspeakers, based in Italy. We've also got the continuation of
"The Journey to Higher Quality Audio With Nordost Leif Cables" in this issue, and an
insightful article about Totem Acoustic in-wall and on-wall speakers.
In addition to all of these great articles, you'll also find three reviews of carefully
selected audio products that we had a thrill reviewing and I'm sure you'll enjoy
reading.
Enjoy the spring weather and support your local record stores this season!
